thoughts and ramblings

social media

How has it already been over a month since my last post?! I’ve seriously been slacking on my presence in the blogosphere. Although I’ve been absent from STUDIO{1859} the blog for a while, I have been doing some work on STUDIO{1859} the shop. In an effort to get the name of my shop out there and to increase sales I created a twitter account, facebook page, and email address for my {hopefully} up and coming business! What better way to get my shop out there than by taking advantage of social media! You may have also noticed I added a Twitter and Facebook widget over on the right column of the blog page.

So, if you haven’t already checked out my Etsy shop, you should head on over there! I’m adding new stuff all the time, so be sure to check back often. And while you’re at it, go LIKE the shop on Facebook and FOLLOW along on Twitter!

I’d like to think of myself as a creator. A creator of jewelry, of crochet things, of works of art. I want my works of art to show my vison and reflect me and for myself to shine through them. Selfishly I want everyone to know that it was ME that made these things. I pour time, energy, and yes, sometimes even sweat and blood (what can I say, I’m accident prone) into my creations. When people see my works of art I want them to think of me. I want to show off my creations, to show people pictures, to talk about them and to bring others joy through them because I’m proud of them!

I had a realization this morning that this is exactly how God feels about us. He is our Creator and Creation exists to glorify its Creator. He knit each of us together in our mothers’ womb (Psalm 139:13). If you knit or crochet you know that this is a delicate, time-consuming task. When I’m crocheting something, my fingers touch literally every inch of that yarn. When God created us, His hands touched every inch of us. Not one part of us was an accident or happened at random; we are just as He planned. God wants Himself to shine through us and for people to think of HIM when they look at us and for everyone to know that it was HIM that created us. As God’s people, we should bring joy to others because of Him. We are His creation and our lives should shout out about our Creator!

Last year I got a tattoo inspired by 1 Corinthians 10:31 “…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Written across my foot it says “for His glory.” It is a daily reminder that my ultimate goal in life is to glorify God in all that I do. Of course I am far from perfect and I fail daily but I am saved by God’s amazing grace. If I can be proud of my simple creations and love them and find joy in them, how much more can God be proud of us and love us and rejoice in us when we bring Him glory! Creation exists to glorify the Creator. WE exist to glorify GOD!

STUDIO{1859} on ETSY!

The whole reason I started this blog was because I wanted to start an Etsy shop. As you may have noticed ever since my blog began there has been a link to Studio{1859} on Etsy and beside of that link it has said <<still in progress>> because I haven’t gotten around to actually making things to list in the shop.

Long story short, it only took 8 months after creating the shop on Etsy to list the first item for sale. So click away and take a quick peek to see that the link no longer says still in progress but says OPEN!

PS – If anyone reading this is actually interested in purchasing an item and I know you personally then ask me for a free shipping code and I’ll hand deliver!

do you want a frozen banana?

… no but I want a regular banana later, so, yeahhhh….

{That was a little tribute to the late, great Mitch Hedberg – my favorite comedian}

For my birthday Sarah got me a blender. Per my request. I really just wanted to make banana smoothies using my ever growing stock of bananas in the freezer and I’d read that frozen bananas make the perfect smoothie consistency. I always buy bananas but never eat them all before they get too ripe so I started tossing the over ripe bananas in the freezer. Now how exactly do you peel a frozen banana? The same way you peel a normal banana, you just end up with frozen fingers.

frozen bananas + pretty new blender = banana smoothie!

Only one problem, it didn’t taste good. I think those bananas spent a little too much time in the freezer. Oops.

did you catch that one?

We’ve had our share of mixed weather the past couple days, rain and sun and more rain and then some sun and repeat. This mixture has led to some cool cloud coverage and thus made for some cool views of the skyline. I always love when my drive is pleasantly interrupted with a nice view. Now I just need to remember to focus on driving.
